Drills & Exercises
WANTED: 2013 Healthcare Exercise and Real Event Information
With the start of the New Year and subsequent review of your annual training and exercise plan, now is a good time to remind you to report your exercise information, as well as real-event information.  For exercises, report to as soon as the following info is determined, so it can be shared in the Disaster Readiness Line.
1) Exercise start and end dates
2) Participating organization names
3) Scenario (severe weather, evacuation, surge, communications, etc.)
4) RCH Region
5) Type of exercise (drill, tabletop, full scale, functional, etc.)
6) Capabilities tested (communications, command and control, etc.)

Email the above to: Suzanne Smalley (
ssmalley@gha.org).

Why should you report this information?

This information is collected for two reasons:
1) to encourage other healthcare partners (within your region or outside of your region) to share exercise documentation and/or lessons learned for similar scenarios, and
2) to federally report the state's healthcare exercises as accurately as possible, helping justify Georgia’s future preparedness funding.

If you have any questions, please contact Suzanne.

And the Winner is...
Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah!!!

As part of the end-of-the-year request for 2012 exercise information reporting, each responding hospital was entered into a drawing.  MHUMC was randomly drawn to receive on-site, full-scale exercise support provided by State Public Health's Training and Exercises Manager Matthew Crumpton and GHA's Drills and Exercises Coordinator Suzanne Smalley.  The exercise support to be provided includes:

  • following the  Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program model
  • meeting The Joint Commission emergency management standards
  • facilitating planning meetings
  • developing planning meeting documentation
  • developing exercise documentation, including the after-action report
  • training controllers and evaluators
  • evaluating the exercise

Thank you, MHUMC, for reporting your 2012 exercise information!  Congratulations on winning!!!
